Imagine a world run by steam and clockwork. It was once the truth of Western civilization. Now imagine a fantasy world quite similar, but perhaps there is...an air kraken? Robots? A sprawling, decaying metropolis or a voyage through the misty skies? Beautiful, gritty, marvelous, abhorrent; all these words describe steampunk.
Steampunk is an emerging subculture, started as a parody off-shoot of cyberpunk fiction. Now it can be found in mediums ranging from music to house decor! Inventors, artists, fashion designers, historians, writers...we are steampunk. Through brass or coal, tyranny or utopia, we will define the substance of this quirky and varied genre.
Let us look brightly to the past for future developments and creativity! There is so much potential it makes one's head ache.
